National Martini Day
National Martini Day allows us to celebrate a drink that was
invented in America and further popularized by films and television shows. While James Bond requests his martini
be “Stirred, not shaken,” Carry Bradshaw requested a classic Cosmopolitan. As this traditional drink increases in
popularity, it is continuously altered and given new and exciting twists.
The traditional martini contains gin or vodka, dry vermouth
and olives. The majority of bars and restaurants serve their cocktails in
martini glasses. Frequent martini drinkers are often specific about the way their
martini is made. A regular martini versus a dry martini refers to the amount of
vermouth placed in the drink. In addition, dirty martinis versus regular
martinis have to do with the amount of olive juice placed in the drink.
For those who aren’t a fan of the traditional martinis,
these drinks have now caught the attention of many and are now offered in a
variety of sweeter options. You can even order a chocolate cake or thin mint
cookie martini for dessert
So tonight
enjoy a martini in celebration of National Martini Day!
